Earlier today, I had the honor of being a lecture guest in my good friend and creative collaborator Dr. Ben Morris' (he's composed the music for six of my films) film music class at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas!
I had the opportunity to introduce myself to a class of eager, young music students and discuss my work as a filmmaker and collaborations with their esteemed professor. The fairly casual, conversational format lent itself to the sharing of in-depth insight and fun anecdotes from my creative partnership with Ben. Clips from my final two short films were shown along with archival documents of detailed guidance for Ben on the respective short films. The students appeared attentive and asked a few questions but I don't blame them if they came away rather dizzied by an onslaught of details about my all-consuming creative process. "Ben and I bleed it," I remarked appropriately enough at one point.
Overall, it was an enjoyable midday sojourn back to academia, an environment I love and will never pass up an opportunity to spend more time in. So, thanks to Ben for finally managing to squeeze me into his busy class schedule! A great experience!
