A few traits filmmakers can borrow from the classical music world:

  1. Not unusual for a single person to write and conduct the voices of 100+ orchestral musicians

  2. Innovation at an individual level can spur widely adopted revolutions in form

  3. Compositions are catalogued systematically as part of a personal canon or portfolio

  4. Discipline, hard work and relentless study and training are required of practitioners

  5. Exists a tradition of producing and disseminating literature on theory and practice
